By the time my son Alex was four, we'd already run the gamut of treatments with DAN doctors. Although he'd been taking pretty heavy anti-fungals, his yeast level was still at the 300 point level. So the doctors suggested I increase to five anti-fungals. But I was uncomfortable with giving him that much.
I decided to give it all a break and took Alex off anti-fungals entirely. Amazingly, his yeast level dropped 150 points!
At that point, I realized I'd have to find a new way of treating Alex. I met Mary Coyle in May of 2006, and we started her protocol around then. Within two months, I noticed a change in Alex. The biggest change (although that took longer than two months) was that for the first time ever, he started to express what was on his mind. For example, when he used to look at a book, he'd just flip pages. But now, he'd stop and comment on the pictures. He'd say, "This is an ice cream," or "The man is eating ice cream," or whatever he'd see in the pictures.
When we'd go outside, he'd comment, "Mommy's walking on the grass," or "Daddy's in the car." And he also started acknowledging his sister, Olivia. He never did any of this before.
In terms of physical health, his yeast level reached 19 points four months after we started Mary's protocol. During this year, his level has waffled between 19 and 59 points, never above normal.
His metabolic process had been so severely out of whack when we were chelating him, the numbers were in the thousands. Out of 86 different pathways that are tested, about 70 were out of range. On Mary's protocol, only three are still out of range and not severely so.
On the behavior end, Alex is completely connected to us. His receptive language as well as expressive language has improved. He can follow directions. And he constantly tells us what's on his mind. Even more complex, he has started to tell us his feelings. He has conversations. And he's learned to write. (Before Mary, he never even picked up a pen.)
We've realized that Alex's body is very sensitive. It couldn't process all the stuff the doctors were giving him. Instead of reacting positively to the anti-fungals, his body actually rebelled against them. But thankfully, he's doing so much better now.
I'm so glad Mary and her team have established the Children's Excel Center. The collaboration of all these different experts is amazing.
